In order to prove that he understands women well enough to handle the campaign, Ben asserts that he can make any woman fall in love with him in just ten days. But, since Ben usually works with sports companies and beer makers, his boss, Phillip (Robert Klein), is hesitant to give Ben the pitch. Meanwhile, Ben Barry (Matthew McConaughey), who works in advertising, is trying to land an account with a huge diamond broker for his company. In order to research this piece, she decides that she will meet a man and attempt to drive him away. Andie’s latest assignment is to write an article entitled “How to Lose a Guy in10 Days”, in which she will explore all of the things that women do to drive a man away. Yet, her editor, Lana (Bebe Neuwirth), is resistant to change and wants Andie to keep writing her puff pieces. However, Andie is unhappy with her job writing the “How To…” column and longs to be a serious journalist. Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) is a writer for Composure magazine, a publication which focuses on fashion and lifestyles.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days opens with the co-mingling of two storylines. That’s the case with How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, a film whose potential is corrupted by the acting. But, what if the acting were, well, just plain wrong. This typically means that the acting is especially good or bad. Unless, of course, something occurs to draw my attention to them.
I could feel comfortable recommending this movie to anyone. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days review by Mike LongĪs someone who is interested in films and filmmaking, I usually focus on the technical side of the genre, and really don’t pay much attention to the actors. Overall 9/10: This movie is great, it was hilarious, with just the right amount of romance. The frustration on both sides is hilarious and it seemed almost true. The harder Andie worked and the more elaborate she became with her plans, the harder Ben fought to keep her.
Yet, the true swinging factor was the last scene when he chases Andie down, it made me truly want a real life, Ben.Ĭomedy 9/10: This movie was very funny, any movie where it’s man vs woman is a win in my book. The ending does sway my vote a little bit, it was one of my favorite scenes in all the rom-com, and made me swoon. I didn’t know whether to rate it high or low for romance, Ben does make romantic gestures throughout the movie, however, in false pretenses. Swoonability 7/10: As I said before I do have a slight bias towards McConaughe, but it did not affect this decision. After the screaming match, Andie decides to quit her job and move to D.C, Ben chases after her and they tell each other their feelings were real, and Andie decides to stay. They get into a screaming match where they blame the other for being untrue. However, on the night of the company ball, the ruse is revealed, and both Andie and Ben are hurt. Throughout it all, the couple manages to still develop feelings for each other as they aren’t always able to keep up the ruse, and they fall in love with each other’s real personalities. She tries to do everything humanly possible to get him to break up with her, instead, he tries even harder to pretend he isn’t bothered, if anything her crazy behavior is making him fall more in love with her. Andie pulls out all the stops to get Ben to break up with her, making collages of what their family would look like, acts possessive and clingy, ruins his poker night.
This becomes the battle between Ben and Andie, who will crack first. Within the same day Ben Barry, played by Matthew McConaughe, makes a bet that he could make any women fall in love with him. It begins with Andie Anderson, played by Kate Hudson, writing a new article for the women’s magazine she works for, about how to get a guy to break up with you in 10 days. Now, back to the movie, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days”, has moved to the top of my list, I can safely say this movie will be a classic in my romantic comedy collection. I did get a little bit of a different view towards him when I read in an article that he never wears deodorant, so I can love him from afar. He himself is superhuman, a professor, actor, and husband.
Let me start by saying that I have a bias towards Matthew McConaughe, being from Austin not being in love with him is an attack against the culture. This week I watched “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” starring my longhorn Austinite, Matthew McConaughe, and Kate Hudson.
